HAND WEAVING

Raanu in Hemp

Raanu in Hemp – Weaving Project

This weaving project was woven on a 4 shaft table loom, but can be woven on any 2 or 4 shaft loom.
In a Raanu, at least 2 colours of weft are woven in a tabby weave. The colours alternate with each other on every pick – so that the wefts interlace and go over and under each other. The pattern is in reverse on the opposite side of the cloth.

    • Warp Yarns used: Finnish Kalalanka
    • Sett: 10 epi
    • Warp width: 19 inches
    • No. Warp Ends: 190
    • Weft Yarns: Single ply Hemp

You can substitute any strong warp yarn such as seine twine, cotton or linen yarns for the warp.
The weft yarns can also be substituted with whatever yarns you have in your stash, in any colourway that is pleasing to you.
This is a lovely project for using up whatever you have in stock – Zero Waste!
