I love working with colour and how to produce the multitude of shades that can be made. I am terrible as a painter or an artist who works with paints, paper and pen. But I love to work with making colours with wool and fibre.

Pantone Shades on the Drum Carder

I often like to blend and make colours using the drum carder. I start with basic colours and blend them together, changing the shade or tone by carefully adding another colour to change the shade. Or to lighten or darken the colour by adding white or grey.

For this project, I chose some solid colours from my wool stash that closely matched the Pantone Shades of 2024. I then blended them on the drum carder to make a variegated spinning batt. Then I spun it as a single ply woolen spun yarn.
