Nalbinding Chain
Nalbinding starts with a chain stitch. Here is one method of making the foundation chain.
Thread the nalbinding needle with 2-5 meters of wool yarn.
Tie a loose loop at one end.
Pinch this loop between your thumb and forefinger.
Wrap the wool yarn around your thumb twice.
Pick up the loop that is behind your thumb and pass the needle through the two loops that are on your thumb.
Pull the yarn through all of the loops, wrapping the yarn around your thumb again to begin the next loop.
Pick up the old loop that is on your thumb, and the first loop that is now behind your thumb.
Turn the needle and pass the needle through the 2 loops that are on your thumb.
Repeat.
Oslo Stitch
Pick up 1 stitch from the previous row.
Pick up 1st loop from behind your thumb.
Pass the needle through the loops on your thumb.
To tighten the stitch (if you wish) pull gently on the yarn so that it tightens around the needle, before fully pulling the yarn through.
Wrap the yarn around your thumb to form the next loop.
Mammen Stitch
Pick up 1 stitch from previous row.
Pick up 1 stitch from your thumb.
Pick up 1 stitch from behind your thumb.
Turn the needle and pass the needle through the loops that are on your thumb.
Pull the needle through all of the stitches.
If you wish to tighten the stitch, drop the loop that is on your thumb onto the needle and tighten, before passing the needle through all of the loops on the needle.
Wrap the yarn around your thumb to begin the new loop.
